Abstract
Every economy requires, at one time or the other, some augmentation that
could boost investments and reduce unemployment. Such supplementary injections could
come through capital importation. In Nigeria, there is a dearth of literature
on the nexus between the upward trend in unemployment and the volume of capital
imported for possible investments. This study observed that other investments
constitute a larger part of capital importation. The multiple linear regression
analysis indicated that all the components of capital importation affect
unemployment negatively except for other investments which had a positive
contribution to unemployment. Also, the model obtained showed that foreign
direct investments and foreign portfolio investments were not volatile, hence,
this model could be used to study the nature of the dependency of unemployment
on capital importation and can also be used for monitoring, hence reducing the level
of unemployment in Nigeria.
